Designation: A split pin shall be designated by the nominal size, nominal length, the number of this standard and material (for other than steel only.)

Example 1: A split of nominal seize 5, nominal length 50mm and made of steel shall be designated as : Split pin 5 X 50 IS : 549
Example 2: A split pin of nominal size 10, nominal length 80mm and made of brass shall be designated as: Split Pin 10 X 80 IS: 549 Brass.

Sampling: Sampling and acceptance criteria shall conform to IS : 6821-1973 Methods for sampling non threaded fasteners.

Test: The samples selected for test, when cold shall permit half the length of the both the legs being best back through 180 and closed flat upon themselves without showing any sign of fracture.
